Hollywood moves to Florence, new Medici drama in the making.

The rise of the Medici family will be broadcasted by RAI (in Italy) in an eight-hour long episode drama, starring academy award winner Dustin Hoffman and Game Of Thrones’s Richard Madden. An interesting mixture of Hoffman’s well-known expertise, alongside Madden’s fresh new talent, most of it seen as he portrayed Robb Stark in HBO’s hit series. Expect to see much of these two, as the series will be taking place mainly in Florence (obviously) and Rome.

We’ll see young Madden playing Cosimo de’ Medici and Hoffman as Giovanni de’ Medici, Cosimo’s father and leader of the family. From humble merchants to banking tycoons, the story explains how one of the most important families in the history of the world came to be. Expect intense father and son moments between the two protagonists, considering you don’t get huge amounts of money and power without some trouble.

‘The Medici came to power at a time of great social and economic inequality. They were great disrupters. Their banking practices led to the creation of a middle class, making them unimaginably wealthy. The Medici in turn used their vast power and resources to challenge traditional thinking, ushering in a new era of revolutionary art and science such as the world had never seen. It’s a powerful story that resonates even now.’ commented Frank Spotnitz, writer and producer of the show, best known for his involvement on the cult show“The X-Files”.

Shooting starts this month, under the lens of Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Under The Dome), and apparently we will get never before seen footage of Palazzo Vecchio, the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Duomo and many other iconic locations. Who knows?, maybe di Lilliano can make a special guest appearance. We will keep you posted for more info regarding this exciting new series.
